Doha: Qatar’s security authorities have arrested two operational cells believed to be linked with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), marking a significant counter intelligence action amid heightened Middle East tensions.
The Qatar State Security agency said the detentions were part of ongoing efforts to safeguard national security and stability. While authorities did not disclose specific details about the suspects or their alleged plans, officials emphasized that the cells were operating on behalf of the IRGC, an elite branch of Iran’s armed forces.
The arrests come during a period of escalated hostilities in the region, following recent strikes by Israel and the United States on Iranian targets, which have deepened geopolitical tensions. These developments have prompted various nations to step up domestic security measures.
Qatar has not formally indicated that it is part of the broader campaign against Iran’s military activities. Government spokespeople have stressed Doha’s commitment to national defense and urged media outlets to refer to verified official statements when reporting on security issues.
Analysts say the arrest of alleged IRGC linked operatives reflects growing concern among Gulf states about cross border influence and espionage amid wider regional conflict dynamics. However, details about how the cells were discovered and the legal process moving forward remain scarce.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of those detained or indicated whether foreign intelligence agencies were involved in the investigation.
