Edgbaston: Former England captain Nasser Hussain believes the pressure is firmly on India to win the second Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test after setting England a mammoth 608-run target. With seven wickets still needed on a rain-affected day five, Hussain questioned whether skipper Shubman Gill trusts his bowlers to finish the job.
“There is a lot of pressure on India. If it ends in a draw, people will ask why they batted so long,” Hussain said on Sky Sports.
He emphasized that England should show positive intent, despite the odds, rather than retreat into defensive play. Former England cricketer Mark Butcher also suggested that England should treat a draw as a win, given the circumstances.
“Escaping from this game would be a win in itself. Use India’s delayed declaration as fuel,” Butcher added.
With time running out and the pitch still offering something to bowlers, the final session could prove decisive in the series outcome.
