Hyderabad: In a landmark verdict, a Hyderabad court has sentenced Abdul Khayyum (23) to five years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl. The ruling was delivered by Special POCSO Sessions Judge Sri Uday Bhaskar Rao at Haka Bhavan.
Case Details
Abdul Khayyum, a resident of GM Colony under Chandrayanagutta police limits, was giving Arabic tuition to the minor girl in 2019. During a tuition session, he sexually harassed the girl and attempted assault, luring her with the promise of a cell phone. The girl screamed, forcing him to flee. Following a complaint by the victim’s mother, Chandrayangutta police registered a case under IPC Section 354-A and POCSO Act Sections 10 r/w 9(m).
Court Verdict
After evaluating scientific and testimonial evidence, the court found Abdul Khayyum guilty. The accused was sentenced to:
- 5 years of rigorous imprisonment
- Fine of ₹5,000
- Compensation of ₹1,00,000 to the victim
Support and Investigation

The victim’s family expressed relief and satisfaction, stating that justice has finally been served.
