Durgapur, West Bengal: July 18, 2025:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a series of major development projects worth over ₹5,400 crore during his visit to Durgapur, aimed at improving infrastructure, energy access, and economic growth in West Bengal.
The projects cover sectors such as natural gas, power generation, transport, and urban development, reflecting the central government’s commitment to fast-tracking progress in the eastern region of India.
Key Projects Unveiled:
- Natural Gas Infrastructure:
PM Modi inaugurated the Durgapur to Kolkata pipeline under the Urja Ganga Project, improving clean energy access in the region. He also launched city gas distribution networks for Bankura and Purulia districts, expected to benefit thousands of households. - Power & Environment:
Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) systems were installed at key thermal power plants to reduce emissions and promote clean energy standards. - Railway & Road Expansion:
A 36-km doubling of the Purulia–Kotshila railway line was inaugurated, aiming to boost freight and passenger transport. New road projects and highway link upgrades were also initiated to improve regional connectivity.
Prime Minister’s Address:
During his public address, PM Modi highlighted that these initiatives are part of a broader vision to build a “Viksit Bengal” (Developed Bengal). He emphasized that infrastructure is the foundation for job creation, industrial revival, and better living standards.
Calling for unity in national progress, he urged citizens to support development efforts and expressed confidence that Bengal could emerge as a leading state in India’s growth story.
