Fuel prices stayed steady across India’s key urban centres on Monday, with petrol and diesel rates remaining unchanged for another day. The stability reflects the continued price freeze maintained by oil marketing companies, despite ongoing fluctuations in global crude oil markets and currency movements.
In Delhi, petrol continues to sell at around ₹96.72 per litre, while diesel is priced near ₹89.62 per litre. Mumbai remains among the costliest metros for fuel, with petrol hovering above ₹106 per litre and diesel above ₹94 per litre. Prices in Kolkata and Chennai have also shown no revision, maintaining their previous levels.
Industry officials said retail fuel prices are influenced by a mix of global crude oil trends, refinery margins, exchange rates and domestic taxation. However, in recent months, companies have chosen to keep pump prices stable to shield consumers from international volatility.
Economists note that steady fuel prices provide temporary relief to households and businesses, as transport and logistics costs play a major role in overall inflation. Transport operators and daily commuters welcomed the continued pause in revisions, saying predictable fuel costs help manage monthly budgets.
Meanwhile, experts caution that sustained changes in global oil supply or geopolitical developments could eventually pressure domestic prices. For now, consumers in major cities can expect petrol and diesel rates to remain unchanged, unless a policy or market driven adjustment is announced by oil retailers.
