In a major update in the Delhi Red Fort blast investigation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has released four individuals detained earlier from Haryana’s Nuh district after the probe found no evidence linking them to the incident. Those released include Dr. Rehan, Dr. Mohammad, Dr. Mustaqeem and Dinesh Singla a fertiliser dealer.
According to investigation sources, exhaustive questioning and technical analysis revealed no digital trail, communication link, or material evidence connecting the four detainees to the main accused. They were subsequently allowed to return home.
The arrests initially generated substantial media attention due to the inclusion of medical professionals and alleged ties to a wider conspiracy. However the release after being found innocent has received comparatively muted coverage, raising concerns over balanced reporting and the importance of highlighting both allegations and exonerations with equal prominence.
Key Suspects Identified in the Blast
While the four individuals have been cleared, the NIA has identified several suspects linked to the November 10 car blast near the Red Fort, which killed multiple people:
- Dr. Umar Un Nabi a doctor from Pulwama and assistant professor at Al-Falah University, has been identified as the Driver of the explosive loaded vehicle. Investigators believe he acted as a suicide bomber.
- Amir Rashid Ali a Resident of Kashmir, has been arrested for conspiring with Umar and helping procure the Hyundai i20 car used in the blast.
- Jasir Bilal Wani, also known as “Danish,” was arrested for providing technical support to the module, including modifying drones and attempting to design crude projectile systems.
- Dr. Muzammil, another doctor under the scanner allegedly conducted multiple reconnaissance visits near the Red Fort earlier this year and is considered a close associate of Umar.
Ongoing Investigation
Officials say the blast appears to be the work of a coordinated module rather than a lone individual. Several leads related to funding, communication patterns and external support are under examination. The NIA is continuing raids and forensic analysis to map the full network behind the attack.
The agency reiterated that while some individuals have been cleared after verification the investigation remains active and more arrests or disclosures may follow.
