New UN Report Calls for Accountability Over Gaza Destruction

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has released a new report presenting a bleak assessment of the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem. Covering the period from November 1, 2024, to October 31, 2025, the report highlights widespread destruction, mass displacement, and severe humanitarian suffering.

According to the findings, Gaza has experienced continued large scale devastation, with communities repeatedly forced to flee their homes. The report documents high civilian casualties, allegations of torture and ill-treatment, and the near total collapse of essential services. It also notes that prolonged restrictions and blockades contributed to food shortages that developed into famine conditions in parts of the territory.

The report states that military operations by Israel in Gaza resulted in unprecedented numbers of civilian deaths and injuries. It adds that the destruction of civilian infrastructure, including housing, medical facilities and water systems, has made living conditions increasingly unviable for the population.

OHCHR further raised concern over what it described as a persistent lack of accountability for violations of international law. The report stressed that the international community has a legal and moral obligation to ensure justice for victims and to prevent further abuses.

In addition to Gaza, the report examines conditions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, pointing to displacement of Palestinian communities, restrictions on movement, and the impact of security operations on daily life. It warns that these combined factors are deepening the humanitarian crisis and undermining prospects for stability.

The UN body urged all parties to comply with international humanitarian and human rights law and called for independent investigations into alleged violations. It also appealed for greater humanitarian access and sustained international engagement to protect civilians.

The report concludes that without meaningful accountability and urgent action, the cycle of violence and suffering is likely to continue, placing millions of civilians at ongoing risk.
