New “Bharosa Centre” Inaugurated at Shamshabad A Major Support Hub for Women & Children

The Telangana Police took a significant step today in strengthening victim support services, as DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy inaugurated a new Bharosa Centre at Shamshabad under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate. The centre will provide integrated assistance to women and children across 17 police station limits, spanning the Rajendranagar and Shamshabad zones.

Services Offered & Jurisdiction

  • The Shamshabad Bharosa Centre is set up as a one stop facility staffed entirely by trained women personnel. It will offer legal aid, medical assistance, psychological counselling, and help with government compensation for victims, especially under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
  • It will cover 17 police station jurisdictions including: Rajendranagar, Mailardevpally, Attapur, Chevella, Shabad, Moinabad, Shamshabad, RGIA, Kothur, Nandigama, Shadnagar, Kondurg, Chowdariguda, Keshampet, Amangal, Kadthal and Talakondapally.
  • The centre’s team will consist of eight core staff: a receptionist, a coordinator administrator, a legal counsellor, two counsellors, a support person, an ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) and an accountant. Additionally, one Sub-Inspector (SI) and one Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) will oversee operations.

Officials’ Statement

DGP B Shivadhar Reddy described the Bharosa Centres as “crisis support systems, offering justice, protection and emotional care under one roof”. He added that the new centre would ensure “no woman or child feels alone or helpless during times of crisis”. He also announced plans to expand the Bharosa initiative to all districts across Telangana.

Background & Significance

Launched in 2016, the Bharosa initiative has become a model for victim centric policing in Telangana. With 33 centres currently operating across 24 districts and six commissionerates, the programme brings together police, legal, medical and counselling support for women and children in distress. The Shamshabad facility is the third such centre in the Cyberabad Commissionerate. It was built with CSR support from the Bangarutalli Foundation (BBG Group) and executed by PVN Infra.

Why It Matters

  • Accessibility: For victims in the 17 station jurisdiction, having a local centre means faster, coordinated responses and less need to shuttle between agencies.
  • Gender sensitive staffing: Women  led support teams can enhance comfort and trust for victims.
  • Crime victim link: In an urban region with high population density and mobility, streamlined support for women and children can play a key role in preventing and addressing abuse.
  • Public trust: By expanding such facilities, the police reinforce the message that protection and justice are priorities.
