A court in Hyderabad has convicted a 34 year old man in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The accused, Md. Ayub alias Awais, was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment by the XII Additional Sessions Judge at Nampally Court.
The case was registered in 2023 at Shahinayathgunj Police Station after a complaint from the family of a minor girl. According to police, the accused allegedly took the 10 year old child to a mobile washroom area and behaved inappropriately, causing the child to raise an alarm and run away.
Nearby women rushed to help the child and informed her family. Following the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act and began an investigation.
During the trial, the court examined the evidence and testimonies presented by investigators and the prosecution. After hearing the case, the court found the accused guilty and sentenced him to Three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹5,000.
The victim was provided counselling and support through the Bharosa Support Centre, which works with law enforcement to assist victims of abuse and violence. Officials said the child is currently continuing her education and receiving ongoing support.
Police officials said the conviction was the result of coordinated efforts between investigators, prosecutors and the support teams assisting the victim. Senior officers from Hyderabad City Police monitored the case during the investigation and trial.
Authorities said the judgment highlights the importance of quick reporting, investigation and support systems in cases involving crimes against children.
