LG Electronics and Saudi Arabia Collaborate on High-Efficiency HVAC Solutions for Extreme Heat Regions

Seoul/Riyadh, June 2025 — LG Electronics, South Korea’s leading home appliance manufacturer, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Saudi Arabia to develop cutting-edge HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) solutions specifically designed for regions that experience extreme heat.

The collaboration involves a joint research initiative with Saudi Arabia’s Shaker Group, a major player in the Kingdom’s home appliances market, along with academic support from King Saud University in Riyadh and Pusan National University in Busan, South Korea. Together, they aim to create HVAC technologies that not only perform reliably under intense heat conditions but also deliver high energy efficiency.

As part of this initiative, LG will supply advanced system air conditioners for installation in both residential and commercial settings across Saudi Arabia. The equipment will be installed and operated locally by Shaker Group. A key feature of the new systems will be the integration of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered engines that automatically adjust cooling performance based on environmental conditions, ensuring optimal energy use and user comfort.

“This collaboration will serve as an opportunity for us to further strengthen our capabilities in HVAC solutions tailored for extremely hot regions,” said an LG Electronics official. “We are committed to continuously enhancing our technological competitiveness by establishing specialized R&D infrastructures for different climate zones around the world.”

This partnership highlights LG’s broader strategic vision to lead the global HVAC industry through innovation and climate-responsive solutions. The company is actively investing in advanced R&D to address the unique challenges posed by varying environmental conditions, especially in regions like the Middle East, where temperatures can soar to extreme levels.

In a related development, LG Electronics recently acquired OSO Group AS, a Norwegian company specializing in smart stainless-steel hot water storage systems. The acquisition is expected to boost LG’s presence in the European heating market, particularly in the air-to-water heat pump (AWHP) segment. While the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, LG emphasized that the integration of OSO’s technologies would complement its existing product lines and support its goal of offering complete, energy-efficient heating solutions.

“Combining LG’s air-to-water heat pump systems with OSO Group’s expertise in hot water storage will help us create more comprehensive solutions for the European HVAC market,” the company said in a statement.

As LG continues to expand globally, these strategic moves mark a significant step toward establishing itself as a leader in climate-adaptive, sustainable HVAC technologies.
