Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Saturday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not a real political alternative to the Congress in Telangana, asserting that the main political contest in the state is between the BRS and the Congress, especially with municipal elections approaching.
Addressing a meeting of party leaders and cadres from Adilabad and Medak districts, KTR said the BJP lacks a strong grassroots presence in Telangana and has failed to position itself as a credible option for voters. He argued that the party’s past electoral gains were largely due to national level political dynamics rather than sustained support within the state.
KTR criticised the Congress led state government, claiming it had failed to fulfil key promises and had not delivered effective governance since coming to power. He urged BRS leaders to highlight what he described as shortcomings in administration and public welfare delivery while campaigning for the upcoming local body elections.
The BRS leader also maintained that both national parties the Congress and the BJP have at times, acted against Telangana’s interests. He reiterated that the BRS remains the only party focused solely on state-specific issues, including water disputes, farmer welfare, and development projects.
KTR called on party workers to strengthen grassroots outreach and prepare intensively for the municipal polls, which he said would be crucial for setting the political tone in Telangana in the coming months.
