K Kavitha Quits BRS and MLC Post, Alleges Family Conspiracy

K Kavitha has resigned from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and also stepped down from her position as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), a day after being suspended from the party.

Her suspension came on September 2 for alleged anti-party activities after she accused senior leaders, including her cousins, of corruption and of conspiring against her father, former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao. The following day, she formally submitted her resignation letters one to the Legislative Council chairman and another to KCR relinquishing her party membership.

In a press conference in Hyderabad, Kavitha said she had no desire for political posts or positions, insisting her exit was driven by internal family disputes. She alleged that her cousins, T. Harish Rao and J. Santosh Rao, were plotting against her and trying to break up the Kalvakuntla family. She also linked their actions to irregularities in the Kaleshwaram irrigation project.

Kavitha expressed disappointment that her brother, K. T. Rama Rao, did not defend her during the controversy, hinting at a deeper family power struggle within BRS. She also claimed she was suspended without a fair hearing, despite her long-standing fight for causes such as 42 percent OBC reservations.

She made it clear that she would not join either Congress or BJP, but she did not rule out the possibility of starting a new political movement after consulting with her supporters.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders, especially from Congress, dismissed her resignation as nothing more than a family drama meant to win public sympathy. Analysts believe the episode highlights an internal power shift, with KCR backing KTR as the future leader of BRS, leaving little space for Kavitha in the party’s structure.
