In a major breakthrough against financial crimes, the Mehdipatnam Police, in coordination with the Commissioner’s Task Force (South West Zone), busted a counterfeit currency racket operating in Hyderabad and seized ₹4.75 lakh in fake ₹500 notes. The joint operation, conducted on November 12, 2025, at Eidgah Grounds, First Lancer, led to the arrest of eight individuals allegedly involved in printing and circulating forged Indian currency.
According to police officials, the teams seized 950 fake ₹500 notes, a Maruti Suzuki Fronx car, three two wheelers and Nine mobile phones used for coordination and distribution.
The main accused, Kasthuri Ramesh Babu (35), a car mechanic from Tandur, Telangana, is alleged to have been manufacturing counterfeit currency at his residence. Investigators revealed that Ramesh used a Scanner, Photoshop software and JK bond paper to replicate the notes. He even used Green gift paper to imitate the security thread and applied Fevicol glue before drying the fake notes with a heat gun.
Police said that Ramesh had previously been arrested in similar cases and was running the operation again, promoting fake note sales through Instagram and supplying them to his associates at ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:2, depending on denomination and demand.
His associates Abdul Waheed, Mohd Abdul Khader, Mohd Sohail, Mohd Fahad, Shaik Imran, Omer Khan and Syed Altamash Ahmed assisted in circulating the counterfeit currency across Hyderabad. All eight accused were taken into custody and produced before the court.
A follow up search at Ramesh Babu’s residence led to the Recovery of additional counterfeiting materials, confirming the scale of the operation.
Officials from the Hyderabad City Police commended the Task Force team for swiftly acting on credible intelligence and preventing the fake currency from entering public circulation.
Police have urged citizens to stay vigilant and immediately report any suspicious currency transactions to the nearest police station.
