Iran Issues Fresh Warning to U.S. Over Sanctions Policy

Iran has issued a fresh warning to the United States over its sanctions policy, emphasizing that progress in diplomatic negotiations  including talks on its nuclear programme depends on concrete steps by Washington toward lifting economic penalties. Iranian officials stressed that the next move is “in America’s court” indicating that Tehran expects reciprocal concessions, particularly on sanctions relief, before returning to serious negotiations.

Iran’s deputy foreign minister stated that the country is prepared to compromise on nuclear issues, including limiting uranium enrichment, only if the United States demonstrates a willingness to remove sanctions that have heavily impacted its economy. While signaling conditional flexibility, Iran has not accepted Washington’s current demands outright.

Tehran also urged the U.S. not to allow external actors to interfere in negotiations, citing regional powers that could complicate talks. The warning comes amid ongoing domestic unrest and massive protests in Iran, with leaders noting that aggressive external policies, including sanctions and threats, could strengthen Iran’s negotiating position.

The standoff underscores the deep mistrust between the two nations and highlights how sanctions continue to play a critical role as leverage in diplomatic and regional affairs, affecting both Middle East stability and global energy markets.
