India’s Trade Minister, Piyush Goyal

India’s Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, is scheduled to visit Washington on September 22, 2025, to advance negotiations on a long-standing trade agreement between India and the United States.

This visit follows a constructive meeting on September 16 in New Delhi between Indian officials, led by Chief Negotiator Rajesh Agrawal, and a U.S. delegation headed by Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Brendan Lynch. The discussions were described as positive and forward looking, focusing on various aspects of the trade deal. Both sides agreed to intensify efforts to achieve an early conclusion of a mutually beneficial agreement.

During his visit, Minister Goyal will be accompanied by Special Secretary Rajesh Agrawal and other officials. The delegation plans to hold talks with the U.S. team to further discussions with a view to achieving an early conclusion of the trade agreement.

The proposed trade deal aims to address long-standing issues between the two countries, including tariffs on agricultural products, market access for U.S. goods and services, India’s demand for easier mobility for skilled professionals, and intellectual property concerns raised by Washington.

This visit marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral economic ties and advancing the India-U.S. trade relationship.
