Indian Railways has unveiled a set of new safety measures aimed at enhancing passenger security and reducing accidents across its vast rail network. The initiative focuses on upgrading infrastructure, improving monitoring systems and strengthening on ground response during emergencies.
According to railway officials, one of the key steps includes the installation of advanced surveillance cameras at major stations and inside select coaches. These cameras will help authorities monitor suspicious activity and respond quickly to incidents involving passengers. Emergency helpline systems are also being strengthened to ensure faster assistance during travel.
The Railways has also announced stricter safety checks for tracks and signaling systems. Regular inspections will be increased and modern technology such as automated track monitoring devices will be used to detect faults before they lead to accidents. Officials said special attention will be given to high traffic and accident prone sections.
In addition, more Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel will be deployed on important routes and at busy stations. Their role will include crowd control, night patrols and assisting vulnerable passengers such as women, elderly people and children.
Another important measure involves improved training for train staff and drivers. Refresher courses on safety procedures, emergency handling and communication protocols will be made mandatory. The Railways also plans to conduct regular mock drills to test preparedness for fire, derailment, and medical emergencies.
Passenger awareness campaigns are also part of the new plan. These will focus on educating travelers about safe boarding practices, emergency contacts and the importance of not crossing tracks or standing near doors while trains are in motion.
Officials said the safety upgrade programme will be rolled out in phases and closely monitored to assess its impact. The Railways stressed that passenger safety remains its top priority and that continuous improvements will be made to ensure safer and more reliable journeys for millions of daily commuters.
