India - UAE Relations Take Centre Stage

Bilateral relations between India and the United Arab Emirates received a major boost as Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in New Delhi on Monday. The high level meeting focused on expanding cooperation across Energy, Trade, Defence, Nuclear power, Space and Technology, reflecting the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations.

A key outcome of the talks was the announcement of an ambitious target to raise annual bilateral trade to USD 200 billion by 2032. This goal builds on the strong momentum created by the India – UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which has significantly increased trade and investment flows since its implementation.

In the energy sector, both sides agreed to strengthen long term cooperation. A 10 year liquefied natural gas supply agreement was signed under which the UAE will supply LNG to India, enhancing India’s energy security and diversifying its fuel sources.

The leaders also discussed expanding collaboration in defence and security, including defence manufacturing, joint training, and capacity building. Civil nuclear cooperation featured prominently in the talks, with both countries agreeing to explore partnerships in advanced nuclear technologies and infrastructure development.

Space cooperation was another focus area, with discussions on joint initiatives in satellite development, space research and commercial space activities. The two leaders also reviewed opportunities in emerging technologies such as Artificial intelligence, Digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystems.

Economic cooperation beyond trade was highlighted, with emphasis on boosting investments, supporting Micro, Small and Medium enterprises and enhancing connectivity through trade corridors and logistics platforms. The UAE expressed interest in expanding investments in India’s infrastructure and industrial projects.

People to people ties, cultural exchanges and cooperation in education and skill development were also discussed, underscoring the close relationship between the two countries.

The meeting reaffirmed the India – UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, signaling a shared commitment to long term collaboration, regional stability and sustainable economic growth.
