New Delhi: The Government of India has partnered with Google to display verified Aadhaar enrolment and update centres on digital maps across the country, aiming to reduce public confusion and curb misinformation about service locations.
Under the initiative, officially authorised Aadhaar centres will now appear as verified locations on Google Maps. Citizens searching for nearby Aadhaar services will be able to identify genuine centres more easily, helping them avoid unauthorised agents and fraudulent service providers.
The project has been developed in coordination with the Unique Identification Authority of India, which manages India’s biometric identity system. UIDAI will regularly update the database to ensure that only approved centres are listed, including those operated by banks, post offices and government offices.
Officials said the move is intended to improve transparency and public convenience. In recent years, complaints have risen about misleading online listings and private operators charging excessive fees for services that are either free or low cost at official centres. By clearly marking verified locations, the government hopes to protect citizens from exploitation.
The mapping feature is also expected to help rural and semi urban residents locate nearby centres without relying on intermediaries. Users will be able to check operating hours, directions and contact details directly through the map service.
Technology experts describe the partnership as part of a broader effort to integrate essential public services with widely used digital platforms. Similar collaborations are being explored for other citizen services, including health facilities and welfare offices.
The government said the system will be rolled out nationwide in phases and will be updated continuously as new centres are authorised or existing ones are relocated. Citizens have been advised to use the verified listings and avoid visiting unregistered operators claiming to provide Aadhaar related services.
The initiative marks another step toward strengthening digital governance while ensuring safer and more reliable access to key identity services for millions of Indians.
