IDF Launches Manhunt for Jewish Settler Extremists Amid Rampant West Bank Riots

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has launched an unprecedented manhunt targeting a group of extremist Jewish settlers accused of carrying out violent attacks across multiple Palestinian towns in the occupied West Bank. The move marks one of the strongest actions taken by Israeli authorities in recent years against radical elements within the settler community.

Wave of Nighttime Riots Sparks Crackdown

The operation began after a series of coordinated nighttime riots in the areas of al-Funduq and Jinsafut. According to IDF assessments, dozens of masked settler extremists set fire to property, hurled stones and launched aggressive assaults not only on Palestinian civilians but also on Israeli soldiers who attempted to intervene.

Security officials reported that several military vehicles were damaged during the clashes, as the attackers fled into surrounding industrial zones and nearby settlements. Multiple suspects were detained, though only one attacker remains in custody at present.

Mosque Set on Fire in Deir Istiya

One of the most disturbing incidents occurred in the village of Deir Istiya, where a mosque was torched in an early morning attack. Copies of the Quran were burned, prayer carpets were destroyed and extremist graffiti was spray painted on the walls. Investigators believe the arson was carried out by the same extremist networks responsible for the wider unrest.

The IDF has handed the case to Israeli police and internal security agencies, citing the severity and religious sensitivity of the attack.

Growing Pattern of Settler Violence

Human rights monitors say the region is witnessing one of its worst spikes in settler violence in years. Villages across the central and northern West Bank have reported home burnings, attacks on farmers and assaults that coincide with the annual olive harvest season a period historically marked by heightened tensions.

Local Palestinian leaders say several people have been injured in these attacks, and communities are living in fear of renewed violence.

Top Israeli Leadership Condemns the Attacks

The violent incidents have drawn harsh condemnation from across Israel’s political and security establishment:

  • Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denounced the perpetrators as a “small, extremist group” that does not represent the broader settler population and vowed that law enforcement would take strong action.
  • IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir called the attacks a “Red line,” describing the assailants as a “Criminal minority” whose behavior undermines both the rule of law and the army’s integrity.
  • President Isaac Herzog labeled the attacks “shocking and serious,” urging Israeli authorities to act decisively before the violence escalates further.

IDF Admits Past Failures

In a rare moment of self criticism, IDF internal investigations have previously found that soldiers in certain incidents did not act forcefully enough to stop settler mobs who were burning homes and vehicles. Officials now say they are determined to correct those failures and impose a stricter response.

International Alarm Growing

The uptick in extremist attacks particularly the mosque arson has drawn strong international reactions, with several governments and global organizations urging Israel to crack down on settler violence to prevent further destabilization in the region.

Manhunt Continues

As of now, the IDF continues its search for additional suspects believed to be behind the coordinated attacks. Military officials say more arrests are expected and that anyone involved in violence against civilians or soldiers “Will be brought to justice.”
