Hyderabad Traffic Police Register Case for Fake and Tampered Number Plate

Hyderabad City Traffic Police have registered a criminal case after detecting the use of a fake and tampered vehicle number plate in the Chaderghat area of the city. The case was registered at Chaderghat Police Station following a complaint that revealed misuse of a two wheeler’s registration number.

The accused, identified as Syed Aliuddin, a resident of Malakpet, was apprehended for allegedly using a fake number plate and altering the original registration number of his two wheeler. The matter came to light after Faheem Ali, the legitimate owner of vehicle bearing registration number TS11EZ2836, reported that illegal traffic challans were being issued against his vehicle despite him not committing the violations.

During verification, traffic police found that the accused had changed his vehicle registration number from TS11EZ2936 to TS11EZ2836 in an attempt to mislead enforcement authorities and avoid detection. As a result of the tampering, as many as 23 traffic challans were wrongly generated in the name of the complainant.

Based on the findings, FIR No. 48/2026 was registered under Sections 319(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 158 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation into the case is currently underway.

Hyderabad Traffic Police have warned that using fake or tampered number plates is a serious and punishable offence. Officials said that advanced surveillance systems, including CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, are being actively used across the city to identify such violations.

Police also urged citizens to report any suspected misuse of vehicle number plates. Complaints can be lodged through the official e-challan portal, by email, or via the Traffic e-Challan WhatsApp helpline. Authorities stressed that public cooperation is crucial in preventing misuse of vehicle registration numbers and ensuring fair enforcement of traffic laws.
