Hyderabad Police Arrest Man for Using Fake Number Plate

The Hyderabad City Traffic Police have arrested a man for using a fake number plate on his two wheeler, leading to multiple traffic challans being wrongly issued to another vehicle owner.

Based on technical inputs from traffic surveillance systems, the Langar House Police registered a criminal case and apprehended Mr. Arif Khan (46), a businessman residing in Ahmed Nagar, 1st Lancer, Masab Tank. He was found using a fake registration number plate on his Honda Activa.

The case came to light after Mr. Shaik Imran, the legitimate owner of Honda Activa bearing registration number TS13EX3358, approached the traffic police with a complaint about illegal traffic challans being generated against his vehicle. Upon verification, police discovered that the accused had replaced his original registration number TS13FA0954 with the complainant’s number TS13EX3358 to evade detection.

Investigations revealed that due to the misuse of the fake number plate, the accused committed traffic violations that resulted in 12 challans being wrongly recorded against the complainant’s vehicle.

An FIR (No. 29/2026) has been registered at Langar House Police Station under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 158 read with 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police cautioned the public that using fake or tampered number plates is a serious and punishable offence under law. Authorities said advanced technologies such as CCTV surveillance and ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras are being used to identify and track such violations effectively.

Citizens have been urged to report suspected misuse of registration plates through the official e-challan portal, email helpline, or the dedicated traffic WhatsApp number.

Confirming the action, D. Joel Davis, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said strict legal action will be taken against offenders involved in such fraudulent practices.
