POCSO Court Sentences Man to 5 Years Jail

A Special POCSO Court in Hyderabad has sentenced a 22 year old man to five years in jail in a child abuse case. The court, led by Judge G. Uday Bhaskar Rao at HACA Bhavan, found the accused, Abdul Salman, guilty under IPC and POCSO Act sections. He was also fined ₹20,000.

The case goes back to January 29, 2020. Police said the accused lured five minor girls, aged between 5 and 9 years, near Ghouse Nagar by offering to show magic tricks. He allegedly took them to a hut, showed them obscene videos, and threatened them before escaping.

The children later gave their statements in a safe and child friendly environment at the Bharosa Centre. The centre also provided counselling and support to the victims and their families during the case.

Police arrested the accused, and after a detailed investigation and trial, the court delivered its verdict. The conviction has brought relief to the families of the victims.

Officials said the judgment sends a strong message against crimes involving children and highlighted the importance of support systems like the Bharosa Centre.
