Hyderabad on High Alert After Deadly Blast Near Delhi’s Red Fort

Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar orders heightened security across the city

Hyderabad: Following a powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort that left at least eight people dead and several injured, Hyderabad has been placed on high alert. Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, has directed all zones to intensify surveillance and deploy additional forces at sensitive locations across the city.

What Happened in Delhi

At approximately 6:52 p.m., a car exploded near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station in Old Delhi. The blast was powerful enough to ignite nearby vehicles, shatter windows and cause panic among commuters and pedestrians.

Early reports confirm eight fatalities and several others injured. The Delhi Police and National Investigation Agency (NIA) have launched a joint investigation to determine whether the incident was accidental or a deliberate act of terror.

Security sources say multiple forensic teams have been deployed to examine vehicle fragments and trace explosive residues.

Hyderabad’s Immediate Response

In Hyderabad, Commissioner Sajjanar held an emergency meeting with senior officers from the Law & Order, Traffic, and Intelligence wings. As a precautionary measure, all major public spaces, including RGIA Airport, Secunderabad and Nampally railway stations, MGBS, and IT corridors, have been placed under enhanced security cover.

Key directives issued by the Commissioner include:

  • Random vehicle checks and baggage inspections at city entry and exit points.
  • Deployment of bomb squads and sniffer dog units at high-footfall areas.
  • Continuous monitoring through CCTV networks in Shopping malls, Religious places and Metro stations.
  • Special coordination with GHMC officials to secure polling stations ahead of upcoming elections.

Commissioner Sajjanar urged citizens to remain calm but alert, advising them to report any suspicious activity or unattended objects to police helplines immediately.

Nationwide Caution and Coordination

Police across several states including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka have been directed to tighten security in response to the Delhi incident.

Officials emphasize that while No direct threat to Hyderabad has been reported, intelligence agencies are taking no chances, especially given the city’s large public gatherings and upcoming civic events.

Emergency Contacts

Authorities have reminded citizens to use the following helplines in case of emergencies or suspicious observations:

  • Police Control Room: 100
  • Cyberabad Police Helpline: 9490617444
  • Fire & Disaster Response: 101

Investigation Continues

The cause of the Delhi explosion remains under investigation. Preliminary leads suggest the blast originated from a parked vehicle, but authorities have not ruled out sabotage.

Union Home Ministry officials have requested comprehensive reports from Delhi and neighboring states to coordinate security intelligence.

In Summary

A tragic explosion in Delhi’s heritage zone has reverberated across India, prompting cities like Hyderabad to heighten their security readiness. Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar’s proactive measures reflect a broader nationwide effort to maintain public safety amid ongoing investigations.
