Hyderabad, July 18, 2025: Heavy rainfall hit several parts of Hyderabad on Thursday evening, bringing much-needed relief from the recent heat but also causing significant traffic congestion and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), multiple zones including Mehdipatnam, Banjara Hills, Khairatabad, Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, and Kukatpally witnessed moderate to heavy downpours, with rainfall ranging between 40 mm and 80 mm in some pockets. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the city, forecasting continued rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours due to active southwest monsoon conditions.
Commuters faced delays as key roads were waterlogged, especially in areas such as Nampally, Abids, and LB Nagar. GHMC emergency teams were deployed across affected zones to clear blocked drains and restore the flow of traffic.
Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated via official weather bulletins. In case of emergencies, they can reach out to the GHMC Disaster Response Team at 040-21111111 or through the MyGHMC app.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police have also issued advisories and urged residents to check traffic updates before stepping out.
