Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police Intensify Crackdown

The Cyber Crime Police Station of Hyderabad City reported a month of strong enforcement action in October 2025, tackling a surge in online financial frauds, scams and digital deception networks operating across India. The intensified drive led to 55 arrests, recovery of ₹62.34 lakh, and detection of inter state cyber syndicates with fraudulent transactions exceeding ₹107 crore.

According to official data, 196 FIRs were registered in October, including 130 by zonal cyber cells. Investigators linked 136 cases to operations spanning several Indian states, with 45 cases originating in Telangana alone.

Nationwide Cyber Fraud Network Uncovered

Police traced many of the accused to multiple states including Andhra Pradesh (24), Gujarat (7), Maharashtra (6), Karnataka (4), Uttar Pradesh (5), Delhi (2), Haryana (2), and Bihar (2) exposing a wide network of cybercriminals who used digital payment systems, fake trading apps and social media scams to cheat victims.

Property seized from the accused included 31 mobile phones, 14 cheque books, 9 debit cards, 2 laptops, 3 shell company rubber stamps and 2 SIM cards used in the frauds.

Major Cases Detected

  1. Digital Arrest Scam: ₹1.07 crore
    Fraudsters posing as Mumbai Police trapped a Hyderabad victim through video calls, falsely claiming involvement in money laundering. The victim was coerced into transferring over ₹1 crore.
    ➤ Six accused were arrested, and three others are under police notice across Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
  2. Lost Mobile Misuse: ₹1.95 lakh
    A stolen smartphone was used to access the victim’s banking apps and transfer funds illegally.
    ➤ Three local suspects were arrested in Hyderabad.
  3. Online Investment & Trading Fraud: ₹24.7 lakh
    A fake WhatsApp group named “Nuvama Insights Stocks” lured investors with promises of high returns. Victims were tricked into transferring large sums to shell accounts.
    ➤ One key accused was arrested in Andhra Pradesh.

Refund & Recovery Efforts

Out of 29 major refund cases in October where victims collectively lost around ₹5.68 crore police successfully recovered and returned ₹62.34 lakh. Most recoveries came from investment Scams, Trading frauds and “digital arrest” cases.

Officials credited the quick action of the 1930 Cyber Helpline and online complaint portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in) for enabling faster fund freezing and partial refunds.

Public Advisory

Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to emerging fraud tactics.
Key safety tips include:

  • Verify any caller’s official identity before transferring money.
  • Do not join unknown WhatsApp or Telegram investment groups.
  • Avoid installing apps from unofficial links or APK files.
  • No government agency ever demands money via video call or chat “digital arrest” scams are fake.
  • Report suspicious activity immediately via Helpline 1930 or www.cybercrime.gov.in

A senior officer warned:

“Cyber fraudsters are adopting new methods every day. Citizens must stay alert, report promptly and verify before trusting.”
