In a major breakthrough against cyber enabled extortion, the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police arrested three individuals for their involvement in a ₹37.7 lakh “Digital arrest” fraud. The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammed Rijwan, Vikram Singh and Nikhil Kumar all Residents of Sikar district, Rajasthan.

According to police, the trio impersonated telecom and law enforcement officials to threaten a city resident with fabricated allegations. Under pressure and fear, the victim was coerced into transferring ₹37,70,000 to multiple bank accounts controlled by the fraudsters.

Investigators discovered that the accused were facilitating bank accounts on commission for cybercrime syndicates. They have been linked to Six cases registered across Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Telangana with total fraudulent transactions estimated at ₹3 crore. Police seized Three mobile phones used in the offence.

The case registered under Cr. No.1181/2025, was cracked by a team led by Inspector B. Srinivas, SI Mahipal and staff under the supervision of ACP Shiva Maruthi and ACP V. Jaipal Reddy of Cyber Crime PS, Hyderabad.

Public Advisory

Authorities have cautioned citizens to stay alert against scam calls claiming to represent government agencies, telecom departments, or police units. Officials clarified that No Indian agency conducts “Digital arrests” or Seeks money through phone calls.

Victims of cyber fraud are urged to immediately dial 1930 or file complaints at cybercrime.gov.in.
