Hyderabad Cyber Crime Alert, 24 Arrested – ₹2.55 Cr Recovered

Hyderabad witnessed a sharp rise in cybercrime cases in March 2026, according to the latest report released by the Cyber Crime Police Station, Hyderabad City.

Officials said a total of 54 FIRs were registered by the Cyber Crime Police Station, while Zonal Cyber Cells recorded 276 FIRs from 3,081 complaints during the month. Police also confirmed that 24 accused were arrested across India in connection with various cybercrime cases.

Despite the rise in cases, authorities managed to recover a significant amount of money. Over ₹2.55 crore was refunded to victims, highlighting improved recovery efforts by cybercrime teams.

Common Types of Fraud

The report revealed that most cases were related to:

  • Online gaming fraud
  • Investment scams
  • Matrimonial fraud

Among these, gaming related frauds were the most common, while investment scams and so-called “Digital arrest” frauds caused the highest financial losses.

Losses and Recovery

Victims reported total losses of around ₹4.40 crore, out of which ₹1.59 crore was recovered in March alone. In one major case, a victim lost over ₹26 crore after being trapped on a fake online gaming platform.

Police Action

Cybercrime teams carried out strong enforcement actions:

  • 24 accused arrested nationwide
  • Seizure of cash, mobile phones, laptops, and cheque books
  • 129 fake social media profiles removed, many of which were promoting illegal betting ads

Officials said most of the accused were from Telangana and many were part of organized fraud networks using digital tools to target victims.

Awareness Efforts

Police also focused on public awareness through initiatives like C-MITRA and Cyber Simba. These programs helped:

  • Assist victims quickly
  • Reach nearly 2 lakh people
  • Reduce daily complaints from 80 to 60

The report shows that while cybercrime is increasing, police efforts in arrests, recovery and awareness are also improving. Authorities have urged the public to stay alert, avoid suspicious online offers, and report cyber fraud immediately to prevent losses.
