Missing Person Complaints Registered in Delhi Every Day

New Delhi: Delhi continues to record a high number of missing person complaints on a daily basis, reflecting the challenges faced by a large and densely populated metropolitan city with a floating migrant population, police officials said.

According to Delhi Police, missing person reports are received across districts every day, Involving Children, Teenagers, Elderly persons and Migrant workers. Many cases are linked to family disputes, runaways, mental health conditions, or people losing contact while travelling or working in the city.

Police clarified that the majority of missing persons are traced within days or weeks through field inquiries, CCTV analysis, call data records and coordination with other states. Only a smaller percentage of cases remain untraced for longer periods and continue to be actively investigated.

Specialised Missing Persons Units function in each district, and information is uploaded on police databases and shared with other law enforcement agencies to speed up recovery. In the case of children, procedures under child protection laws are immediately initiated and Child Welfare Committees are informed.

Senior police officials said citizens should not hesitate to file a missing person complaint, as there is no mandatory waiting period. “Timely reporting significantly increases the chances of tracing the missing individual” an officer said.

The police have also urged families to keep recent photographs and identification details ready when lodging complaints and to provide accurate last seen information.

Public Advisory:

  • There is no need to wait 24 hours to report a missing person
  • Provide recent photographs and ID proof
  • Immediately inform the nearest police station
  • In case of children, police initiate priority search protocols

Authorities said community awareness and early reporting remain key to resolving such cases quickly and reducing the number of long-term missing persons in the city.
