In a tragic road accident early Sunday morning, at least 20 people were killed and several others injured when a speeding truck collided head-on with a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus near Shamshabad Chevella Road in Ranga Reddy district.
According to preliminary police reports, the accident occurred around 4:30 a.m., when the bus on route from Mahbubnagar to Hyderabad was hit by a heavily loaded truck traveling at high speed in the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that the front portions of both vehicles were completely crushed.
Rescue Operations and Response
Local residents rushed to the spot immediately after hearing the crash and began rescue efforts before police and fire services arrived.
Emergency teams from Shamshabad Police Station, Ranga Reddy Fire Department, and GHMC Disaster Response Force worked together to pull passengers out of the wreckage.
At least 20 passengers were declared dead on the spot, while over 25 others sustained serious injuries. The injured were shifted to Osmania General Hospital and Shamshabad Area Hospital for treatment.
Officials Reaction
District Collector S. Harish and SP Sunpreet Singh visited the site and supervised rescue and relief operations. Preliminary findings suggest overspeeding and possible brake failure as the key reasons behind the crash.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed deep grief over the tragedy and announced an ex gratia of ₹5 lakh for the families of each deceased passenger. He directed officials to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured and to submit a detailed inquiry report within 48 hours.
Eyewitness Accounts
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck was “zigzagging” before losing control and hitting the bus. “The sound was terrifying. We rushed and found passengers screaming inside the bus,” said a local resident who helped in rescue operations.
Awareness Message
The accident once again highlights the urgent need for strict enforcement of road safety rules, speed control, and driver fatigue checks on national and state highways. Authorities have urged both public and private transport operators to ensure regular vehicle maintenance and driver rest hours to prevent such tragic incidents.
