Telangana witnessed two disturbing and high impact developments at the state level, highlighting serious social and governance concerns one involving a tragic honour killing and the other linked to an illegal phone tapping scandal under investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Honour Killing Case: Parents Arrested in Karimnagar
In a shocking incident from Karimnagar district police arrested a couple for allegedly murdering their 17 year old daughter in what is suspected to be an honour killing. According to investigators, the girl was in an inter caste relationship, which her parents strongly opposed.
The incident took place in Saidapur mandal, where the parents allegedly forced the minor to consume insecticide and later strangled her to death. After the crime, they reportedly attempted to pass it off as a suicide. However, inconsistencies in the scene and medical examination raised suspicion, prompting a deeper investigation.
During questioning, police gathered evidence pointing to a planned killing driven by caste prejudice and family honour. The accused parents have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including murder and have been remanded to judicial custody.
The incident has once again sparked outrage across the state, with activists and rights groups demanding strict punishment and stronger preventive measures against honour based violence.
Phone Tapping Case: SIT Intensifies Probe
Parallelly, the illegal phone tapping case continues to send shockwaves through Telangana’s political and administrative circles. The case pertains to alleged unauthorised surveillance carried out during the previous government regime.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is probing allegations that phones of Political leaders, Judges, Journalists, Businessmen and Officials were illegally intercepted using state machinery. The investigation has focused on senior police officers, including the former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief, who is considered a key accused.
The SIT has been questioning multiple officials, analysing seized electronic devices and examining whether evidence was destroyed to conceal the operation. Authorities believe the surveillance was systematic and carried out without legal sanction.
The case was registered earlier following complaints of misuse of power and violation of citizens’ privacy. The investigation has now reached an advanced stage, with custodial interrogations and forensic analysis underway.
Statewide Impact
Both cases have reignited debates in Telangana one on deep rooted social evils like honour killings and the other on abuse of authority and privacy violations. Civil society organisations are urging the government to ensure swift justice, transparency and strong reforms to prevent such incidents in the future.
As investigations continue, the state watches closely, demanding accountability, justice for victims and assurance that law and constitutional values prevail.
