A major overseas employment scam has been unearthed in Hyderabad after an overseas consultancy based in Himayatnagar allegedly cheated nearly 40 job aspirants by promising foreign work permits and lucrative employment opportunities abroad.
According to police sources, the consultancy collected over ₹1.05 crore from the victims under the pretext of arranging jobs in countries such as Australia, Germany, Malta, Albania, Laos, China, New Zealand and Luxembourg. Each candidate reportedly paid between ₹2 lakh and ₹5 lakh to secure supposed “overseas job packages” and “work permits.”
However, the victims soon realized they had been duped when their promised visas and travel arrangements failed to materialize. Many complained that their passports were withheld and that the documents provided by the firm were later found to be forged. When the victims visited the consultancy office in Himayatnagar, it was found locked, and the staff were untraceable.
The affected individuals then approached the local police, who registered a case and launched an investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that the operators had created fake appointment letters and work permits to lure job seekers desperate for overseas opportunities.
A senior police official said, “We have received several complaints and are verifying the documents. The consultancy appears to have operated with the intent to cheat unemployed youth on the promise of foreign placements.”
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is expected to take over the investigation, as the number of victims and the total amount involved may rise further.
Officials have urged the public to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of overseas consultancies before making any payments or submitting personal documents.
The case highlights a growing trend of Fraudulent overseas job agencies exploiting the aspirations of young professionals seeking employment abroad.
