Authorities in Telangana are considering introducing half day schooling from March 16 as temperatures begin to rise across the state. The move aims to protect students from extreme heat during the peak afternoon hours.
Officials from the Telangana Department of School Education said the proposal is being reviewed as summer conditions intensify earlier than usual this year. If implemented, schools would operate only during morning hours, allowing students to return home before temperatures climb later in the day.
The decision is expected to apply to government and private schools across the state. Education authorities have advised school administrations to remain prepared for schedule adjustments and to prioritize student safety during the summer months.
Weather reports indicate that several districts have already started experiencing higher daytime temperatures, prompting concerns about heat-related health issues among children.
State officials said a final announcement on the revised school timings will be issued soon after reviewing weather forecasts and consulting district education authorities.
The half-day schedule is a common measure adopted in Telangana during the summer season to reduce students’ exposure to intense heat.
