GHMC Intensifies Action Against Illegal Constructions in Hyderabad

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has stepped up its crackdown on illegal constructions across Hyderabad’s suburbs following the merger of 27 fringe local bodies into the civic body. Areas such as Shamshabad, Manikonda, Medchal, Shamirpet, Miyapur, and Attapur have come under close scrutiny, with multiple unauthorised buildings and illegal extensions being sealed or demolished.

GHMC officials said the action targets unauthorised structures that lack proper approvals, including extra floors and plan deviations. The enforcement wing has also taken measures in central Hyderabad, including the Old City, where areas such as Misrigunj have seen structures sealed amid heavy police deployment.

This move comes after repeated directives from the Telangana High Court for swift action against illegal constructions. The Court had instructed GHMC to seal unauthorised structures immediately once violations are detected, rather than waiting for responses or inquiries.

Officials said the crackdown aims to ensure compliance with urban planning norms and building regulations, especially now that suburban developments fall under GHMC’s direct oversight. Residents and builders have been warned that illegal extensions or unapproved constructions will face strict enforcement, including notices, sealing, and demolition where necessary.

GHMC has assured the public that enforcement will continue across the city to maintain legal compliance and orderly urban development.
