Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force of Golconda Zone, in coordination with Masab Tank police, has arrested three individuals allegedly involved in extortion by threatening victims with an illegal firearm.
Police said the accused were creating fear among investors and individuals seeking repayment of money, using threats of violence to force them into paying large sums.
According to investigators, the main accused, Mohd Afroz Baig (46), a real estate businessman and proprietor of MAB Projects based in Banjara Hills, allegedly conspired with two associates Teljeri Balakishan, also known as Balraj (around 30), a milk vendor from Boduppal, and Bittu Kumar, also known as Raju (around 30), a dairy worker currently residing in Bhuvanagiri and originally from Bihar.
Police said the accused allegedly procured a country made pistol and ammunition through illegal channels from Bihar and kept the weapon to intimidate victims. Investigators believe the suspects used the firearm to threaten people demanding repayment of money, creating fear and forcing them to comply with their demands.
During the operation, police seized one country made pistol, 18 live rounds of ammunition, two magazines, a vehicle, several mobile phones, and a hockey stick from the possession of the accused.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police officials said further investigation is underway to identify additional victims and possible links to other extortion activities.
