Former Minister T Harish Rao Questioned by SIT in Phone Tapping Case

Former Telangana Minister and Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao was examined by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on January 20, 2026, in connection with the illegal phone tapping case registered as Crime No. 243 of 2024 at Panjagutta Police Station.

According to police, Harish Rao appeared before the Investigation Officer at Jubilee Hills Police Station and was questioned in detail as part of the ongoing probe. He was allowed to leave early after informing the officers about his son’s scheduled flight later in the evening. The SIT concluded the examination for the day after considering his request.

Police officials stated that Harish Rao was clearly instructed not to contact, influence, or interfere with any witnesses linked to the investigation. He was also informed that he may be summoned again if further examination is required.

Clarifying speculation surrounding the questioning, the Hyderabad Police said that Harish Rao’s examination was solely related to Crime No. 243 of 2024, which involves serious allegations of unauthorized and illegal surveillance, including phone tapping of politicians, businesspersons and other individuals.

The police noted that a detailed investigation into the phone tapping case has been underway since March 10, 2024. A main charge sheet has already been filed against certain accused persons, while further investigation continues into several connected aspects of the case.

Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, urged the public not to believe or circulate false information regarding Harish Rao’s examination, particularly claims suggesting it was conducted in violation of any Supreme Court order.
