Traffic police officials on Tuesday took strict action against motorists with damaged or improperly fixed number plates, rejecting excuses and warning that compliance with rules is mandatory.
During routine checking, a vehicle owner tried to explain that the number plate had fallen off during the night and might have bent accidentally. He claimed that he had not deliberately damaged it and that it happened by mistake. However, officers refused to accept the explanation and directed him to immediately correct the issue.
Officials said personal justifications such as “it fell at night,” “it bent on its own” or “it happened by accident” will not be considered valid reasons for violating vehicle regulations.
Police clearly stated that every vehicle must have a properly installed, visible and rule compliant number plate at all times. Any plate that is Bent, Hidden, Broken or Altered will be treated as a violation of traffic rules.
“Whatever the reason may be, the vehicle must meet legal requirements. Get it fixed” an officer told the motorist during the inspection.
Authorities have advised all vehicle owners to regularly check their number plates and ensure they are securely fitted and clearly readable. Violators may face fines and further legal action if the issue is not corrected.
The drive aims to improve road safety and ensure easy identification of vehicles involved in traffic violations or accidents.
