Encroachment Drive Turns Violent, One Arrested in Hyderabad

Attacking Cop During GHMC Drive

Hyderabad City Police have arrested a man accused of attacking a police constable and creating trouble during an anti encroachment drive carried out by GHMC officials in the Old City.

The incident took place on April 4 at Murgi Chowk, where GHMC teams, along with police from the Charminar Division, were removing illegal encroachments from the Lad Bazar to Puranapool stretch.

According to police, a group of people gathered at the spot and tried to stop the officials from doing their work. The situation turned tense when one of the accused, identified as Sahil Akber, allegedly pushed and manhandled a police constable who was on duty to protect the officials.

Officials said the group also used abusive language and behaved aggressively, creating chaos during the operation. The police later registered a case under relevant sections of the law for obstructing public servants and causing harm while they were on duty.

On April 5, Hussainialam Police arrested Sahil Akber near Murgi Chowk. During questioning, he reportedly admitted his involvement. He has been presented before a court in Nampally and sent for judicial remand.

Police have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone who tries to attack or obstruct government officials during their duty. Authorities have also urged the public to cooperate with such drives and maintain law and order.
