Election Commission Gears Up for Assembly Elections in Bihar, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated preparatory measures for the forthcoming assembly elections in Bihar, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir. These elections are anticipated to occur later this year, with specific timelines varying across states.

Bihar: Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls

In Bihar, the ECI has announced a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, aiming to update voter lists before the assembly elections. This process involves a comprehensive review to ensure accuracy and inclusivity. Notably, over 10.7 lakh new electors, primarily first time voters in the 18 to 19 age group, have applied for inclusion in the electoral rolls. The revision is expected to conclude by late September 2025.

Maharashtra: Voter Roll Updates and Training Programs

Maharashtra is undergoing updates to its voter rolls, with the ECI focusing on enhancing transparency and accuracy. The state has also conducted training programs for Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to ensure smooth election operations. These initiatives are part of the broader efforts to prepare for the assembly elections scheduled for later this year.

Haryana: Electoral Roll Revisions

In Haryana, the ECI has commenced the revision of electoral rolls to facilitate the upcoming assembly elections. This process is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that all eligible voters are accurately represented in the voter lists.

Jammu & Kashmir: Preparations for Assembly Elections

Jammu & Kashmir, following its reorganization into two Union Territories, is set to conduct its first assembly elections since the abrogation of Article 370. The ECI has initiated preparations, including the revision of electoral rolls, to facilitate the electoral process. These steps are in line with the Supreme Court’s directive to conduct elections in the region.
