Telangana’s Director General of Police (DGP) B. Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, has unveiled an ambitious and forward looking policing strategy aimed at building a #SaferTelangana through Visionary leadership, Teamwork and Citizen participation.

In an interaction with The Times of India, the DGP detailed his comprehensive vision of modern policing a model rooted in Technology, Transparency and Trust, designed to make Telangana one of India’s safest and most progressive states.

Vision: Teamwork and Public Partnership

DGP Shivadhar Reddy emphasized that effective policing in the 21st century depends on community partnership, not just enforcement. “Safety cannot be achieved by the police alone. It requires the active participation of Citizens, Communities and Institutions,” he said.

Under his leadership, the Telangana Police are working toward a citizen centric model that promotes cooperation between Residents, Local Bodies, Educational institutions and Businesses to address Crime prevention, Civic safety and Social awareness.

Focus Areas of the New Policing Strategy

1. Curbing Drug Abuse and Trafficking

  • A specialized Anti Narcotics Task Force is being strengthened to identify supply networks, rehabilitate addicts and engage youth through awareness drives in schools and colleges.
  • Collaboration with excise and health departments aims to ensure an all round response that targets both peddlers and prevention.

2. Cybercrime Prevention

  • Telangana Police are expanding their Cyber Warrior initiative, training officers in AI-based threat detection, digital forensics and social media monitoring.
  • Public outreach programs will teach citizens how to Safeguard digital privacy, Avoid scams and Report cyber offenses promptly.

3. Road Safety and Accident Reduction

  • The DGP reiterated the department’s commitment to reducing road fatalities through a mix of strict enforcement and public education.
  • Programs such as Arrive Alive and Drive Safe Telangana encourage helmet usage, discourage drunk driving, and promote disciplined traffic behavior.

4. Technology Enabled Policing

  • Expansion of the Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) for faster response to emergencies.
  • Use of AI-driven predictive policing, GPS tracking and CCTV analytics to pre-empt criminal activities.
  • Citizen friendly apps to improve police accessibility and complaint tracking.

🔹 Collective Responsibility for Safer Communities

DGP Shivadhar Reddy highlighted the importance of collective vigilance and proactive citizenship. He urged the public to be active partners by promptly reporting Illegal activities, Supporting awareness campaigns and Avoiding misinformation online.

“Every citizen has a role in shaping a safer Telangana,” he said. “When the Police, People and Institutions move together, no challenge is too great be it drugs, cybercrime, or traffic safety.”

Telangana’s approach, blending visionary policing with community engagement, has already drawn national attention. With strong focus on data driven Crime prevention, Youth engagement and Social accountability, the state aims to emerge as a benchmark for modern law enforcement in India.
