Cyber Crime at a Dangerous Level: Awareness Is Every Citizen’s Responsibility

Cyber Crime at a Dangerous Level

Cyber crime has reached an alarming level across the country. Every day, people are losing their money, personal data, and peace of mind to online frauds. Despite advanced technology, criminals continue to succeed not because systems are weak, but because people are targeted first.

“Criminals will never hack your devices to reach you criminals always hack you to reach your devices.”

This is the most important truth every citizen must understand.

Cyber criminals do not start by breaking phones, laptops, or servers. They first manipulate the human mind using Fear, Urgency, Trust and Emotions. Once a person makes a mistake, the device becomes easy to access.

Awareness Campaigns Are Running But Responsibility Starts with Us

The government, cyber crime cells and police departments are running continuous awareness campaigns, issuing advisories, and strengthening cyber laws. Helplines, portals, and public alerts are available.

But no system can protect a citizen who ignores warnings.

Self-protection begins with personal responsibility.

How Criminals Trap Victims

  • Fake calls claiming to be from Banks, Police, Courier services or Government offices
  • Messages about Account suspension, Illegal activity, Refunds or Prizes
  • Links and QR codes sent via SMS, WhatsApp, email or social media
  • Requests to share OTP, PIN, passwords, or to install unknown apps
  • Emotional pressure: “Act now or your account will be blocked”

Safety Is Not Optional It Is Necessary

Every citizen must follow these basic rules:

  • Never share OTP, PIN, passwords, CVV, or personal details
  • Banks, police, and government offices never ask details on phone or WhatsApp
  • Do not click unknown links or scan random QR codes
  • Do not install apps or screen-sharing software sent by strangers
  • Verify urgent requests through official sources
  • Educate Family members, Senior citizens and Children

Report, Don’t Ignore

If you suspect a cyber fraud:

  • Act immediately
  • Inform your bank
  • Report to cyber crime helpline 1930
  • File a police complaint

Final Message to Citizens

Cyber crime can only be reduced when every citizen stays alert. Technology helps, laws help, police help but awareness and caution are the strongest defenses.

Once again, remember this line:

“Criminals don’t hack devices first they hack people.”

Stay alert. Stay informed. Protect yourself and others.
