Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced a major relief package for mango farmers in Karnataka facing steep price drops—particularly for the Totapuri variety. In a virtual meeting with Karnataka Agriculture Minister Shri N. Chaluvaraya Swamy, both governments agreed to jointly bear the price difference for 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes.
Under the arrangement, the Central and State governments will split the compensation cost, easing the financial burden on farmers affected by low market rates. This intervention comes under a central scheme aimed at protecting farmer incomes during market fluctuations.
While Karnataka had also raised concerns about falling tomato prices, the state noted that those prices have since stabilised and require no action at this time.
Minister Chaluvaraya Swamy expressed gratitude to the Union Minister for acting swiftly to support Karnataka’s mango farmers during a difficult season.
