Canada has refused pressure to join the United States and Israel in the ongoing conflict with Iran, saying it will not participate in military operations.
Canadian Defence Minister David McGuinty said Canada was not involved in the strikes against Iran and had not been consulted before the attacks were carried out. He emphasized that Ottawa has no plans to join the war.
The statement comes as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise following airstrikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets. Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney criticized the strikes and called for restraint, saying the priority should be de-escalation and diplomatic dialogue.
Canadian officials said the country will instead focus on monitoring the situation and supporting international efforts aimed at preventing further escalation in the region.
