Birth Certificate Still Missing? Telangana Government Allows Late Registration at Any Age

Birth Certificate After 40 - 50 Years

Many citizens in Telangana, especially those aged 40, 50 years and above, are unaware that they can still legally obtain a birth certificate even if their birth was never registered at the time of birth. Officials have clarified that the Late Registration of Birth facility is permanently available and not restricted by age or time limit.

The Telangana Government provides a structured process through municipal authorities, GHMC offices and MeeSeva centres to ensure that adults without birth certificates are not deprived of essential legal identity.

What Late Registration of Birth Means

If a birth was never registered with the municipal authority whether GHMC in Hyderabad or CDMA in other Telangana regions citizens can still apply now using the Late Registration of Birth service.

The Telangana Government officially allows registration of births even decades later and this facility is not limited by age. Individuals aged 40, 50 or even senior citizens are eligible to apply.

How to Apply for Late Birth Registration

There are two official methods: online and offline.

Online Method (MeeSeva / CRS)

Applicants can apply online through the official MeeSeva portal:

👉 Official MeeSeva Portal (Telangana): https://ts.meeseva.telangana.gov.in

Steps:

  1. Select the service “Late Registration – Birth” or “Non-Availability of Birth Certificate (NABC)”

  2. NABC is an official declaration stating that no prior birth record exists

  3. Upload required documents:

    • Aadhaar Card / Voter ID / Passport

    • School Leaving Certificate / SSC Certificate (proof of age)

    • Ration Card or address proof

    • Affidavit stating date of birth, place of birth, and parents’ details

  4. Pay the prescribed fee

    • In GHMC areas, late registration fees are generally ₹35 plus ₹5 per year of delay

  5. Track application status online and download the certificate once approved

Processing may take several weeks, as authorities verify historical records and affidavits.

Offline Method (MeeSeva or GHMC Ward Office)

For those who are not comfortable with online applications:

  • Visit the nearest MeeSeva centre, or
  • Visit the GHMC Ward or Circle Office (Hyderabad residents)

Steps:

  1. Request the Non-Availability of Birth Certificate (NABC) form

  2. Submit:

    • Government ID

    • Proof of age

    • Address proof

    • Notarized affidavit with birth details

  3. Authorities conduct verification and process the late registration

  4. Birth certificate is issued after approval

Tip: Carry multiple age proof documents (School records, Aadhaar, Passport) to speed up verification.

Documents Commonly Required

  • Aadhaar Card / Voter ID / Passport
  • School Certificate / Marks Memo
  • Ration Card or address proof
  • Affidavit declaring birth details
  • Non-Availability Certificate (if no old record exists)

For older births, affidavits are crucial as hospitals did not always maintain records in earlier decades.

Important Points for the Public

  • No age limit for applying
  • No special deadline or “open window” required
  • Late registration service is ongoing and permanent
  • Processing may take time due to verification
  • Assistance available at MeeSeva and GHMC offices

Why Late Registration Is Legally Allowed

Indian civil registration laws permit late registration because:

  • Births were often not recorded in earlier decades
  • Many people did not need certificates earlier
  • Adults now require birth certificates for passports, pensions, Aadhaar corrections and government schemes

Authorities therefore accept alternative proofs and affidavits to establish date of birth.

Summary

  • Adults aged 40, 50, or older can legally apply for a birth certificate in Telangana and GHMC areas
  • Applications can be made online via MeeSeva or offline at ward offices
  • Required documents include ID, age proof, affidavit and NABC if applicable
  • Birth certificates are issued after verification and are legally valid nationwide

Public Advisory

Citizens are advised not to panic or believe unverified social media messages about deadlines. Birth certificate services in Telangana remain Open, Lawful and Accessible to all age groups.
