Bharat Bandh Scheduled for October 3, 2025, Postponed by AIMPLB

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced the postponement of the Bharat Bandh initially scheduled for October 3, 2025. The bandh was called to protest against the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, which the board contends undermines the autonomy and management of Waqf properties.

Reasons for Postponement

In an official statement, AIMPLB General Secretary Maulana Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi cited the overlap with significant religious festivals, including Durga Puja and Dussehra, as the primary reason for postponing the bandh. The board expressed concern that the bandh could disrupt these religious observances, which are of great importance to many communities. Therefore, to maintain communal harmony and respect for religious sentiments, the board decided to defer the protest.

Future Plans

While the October 3 bandh has been postponed, the AIMPLB has affirmed its commitment to continuing the protest against the Waqf Amendment Act. The board has stated that new dates for the Bharat Bandh will be announced in due course. In the meantime, other forms of protest and awareness campaigns are expected to take place to keep the issue in the public eye.

Impact on Public Services

Had it proceeded, the Bharat Bandh was scheduled to be observed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a call for shops, offices, and commercial establishments to remain closed. Essential services, including hospitals and pharmacies, were to remain operational during the bandh. Public transport services were expected to be affected in several parts of the country, depending on local participation in the protest.

Conclusion

The postponement of the Bharat Bandh reflects the AIMPLB’s sensitivity to the cultural and religious calendar of the country. By rescheduling the protest, the board aims to ensure that the message against the Waqf Amendment Act is delivered without causing unnecessary disruption to ongoing religious celebrations. The public and stakeholders are advised to stay informed about future developments and the rescheduled dates for the protest.
