All India Majlis E Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has announced that the party will contest the upcoming municipal elections in Telangana independently, with the possibility of alliances to be considered at a later stage.
Speaking to the media, Owaisi said AIMIM is confident of contesting the civic polls on its own strength, drawing encouragement from its recent performance in the Maharashtra municipal elections, where the party expanded its footprint in several urban local bodies.
He clarified that there will be no pre-poll alliances for the Telangana municipal elections. However, he added that if other political parties approach AIMIM in the future, the party leadership may consider discussions depending on circumstances.
With the Telangana municipal elections expected to be held in mid February 2026, AIMIM has already begun preparations by inviting applications from aspiring candidates across the state. The party leadership has directed district and town level presidents to oversee the application process.
Owaisi also cautioned party leaders against making premature announcements regarding candidates, stating that the final list of candidates will be announced officially by the party leadership after proper scrutiny.
The announcement signals AIMIM’s intent to strengthen its independent political presence in Telangana’s urban local governance and expand beyond its traditional strongholds.
