Members of the All India Majlis E Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) staged a walkout from the Telangana Legislative Assembly during the singing of the Vande Mataram on Monday.
According to assembly proceedings, AIMIM legislators left the House while the song was being played at the start of the session. The party has previously maintained that it respects the national anthem but has reservations about participating in the singing of “Vande Mataram”
The move sparked reactions from several lawmakers in the Assembly, with some criticizing the walkout and calling for respect toward patriotic traditions in the House.
AIMIM representatives later said their stance on the issue has remained consistent over the years, emphasizing that their action should not be interpreted as disrespect toward the country.
The incident briefly disrupted proceedings before the Assembly continued with its scheduled agenda.
