Afghanistan’s Taliban led government has accused Pakistan of carrying out an airstrike that struck a drug rehabilitation hospital in the capital, Kabul, reportedly killing hundreds of people and injuring many others.
Afghan officials said the attack targeted a rehabilitation facility where a large number of patients were receiving treatment for drug addiction. According to authorities, the hospital was crowded at the time of the strike, leading to heavy casualties. Early estimates from Afghan sources claimed that around 400 people may have been killed, with several hundred more injured.
Pakistan has rejected the accusation, stating that its military operations were aimed only at militant hideouts and not civilian infrastructure. Officials in Islamabad denied targeting a hospital and said their strikes were conducted against groups considered security threats along the border region.
The conflicting claims have increased tensions between the two neighboring countries, which have had strained relations in recent months over security concerns and cross-border militancy.
Independent confirmation of the exact target and casualty numbers remains unclear and international observers say further investigation will be needed to determine what happened.
