In a major breakthrough, the Hyderabad Police have arrested two members of an interstate robbery gang involved in a brutal armed robbery near an SBI ATM in the Koti area. The accused had forcibly confined and assaulted a victim using a country made firearm and looted ₹6 lakh in cash.
The arrests were made on February 24, 2026, following credible intelligence inputs and coordinated action by multiple teams from the Task Force of Secunderabad and Khairatabad Zones along with Sultan Bazar Police Station.
The arrested accused have been identified as Furkhan Ahmed (36) of Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh and Mohd Taiyyab Tyagi (30), a cab driver residing in Shaheen Nagar, Hyderabad. Police seized a country made pistol with 35 live rounds, two magazines, ₹2.38 lakh in cash and two mobile phones from their possession.
According to investigators, the gang targeted people depositing large amounts of cash at ATM deposit machines in busy commercial areas such as Abids, Koti and Nampally. The accused had carried out detailed surveillance and used firearms to intimidate the victim. During the robbery, one of the accused even fired shots, injuring the victim before fleeing with the cash and the victim’s two wheeler.
Police said the operation was meticulously planned and executed after forming six special teams to track the suspects’ movements. The accused were finally caught near Shaheen Nagar, Chandrayangutta, ending weeks of pursuit.
Several other gang members are still absconding, and special teams have been dispatched to trace them in Uttar Pradesh. Police records show that the arrested accused were involved in multiple previous criminal cases, including robbery, arms offences and violations under the Electricity Act.
Senior officers supervised the entire operation, ensuring seamless coordination between different units. Officials said the case reflects the department’s commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring that criminals cannot escape justice.
“This successful operation proves that crime will not go unpunished. No matter how cleverly criminals plan their acts, they will be traced and brought before the law” a senior police officer said.
The action has been widely appreciated by local residents and business owners, who said such swift police response boosts public confidence and sends a strong message to offenders.
The Hyderabad City Police reiterated that strict action will be taken against those who indulge in violent crimes and warned that no one can hide if they choose the path of wrongdoing.
