Digvijaya Singh Links BJP and AIMIM

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has triggered a fresh political controversy after making sharp remarks linking the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Majlis E Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), accusing both of benefiting from communal polarization.

Addressing party workers, Singh said that although BJP and AIMIM claim to be ideological opposites, their politics ultimately feeds off the same strategy religious division. He alleged that while the BJP projects a narrative of Hindus being under threat, AIMIM counters it by claiming Muslims are under threat, and this mutual fear politics helps both sides consolidate votes.

Singh argued that such approaches weaken social harmony and distract people from real issues like Unemployment, Inflation, Education and Development. He warned that repeated polarization could have long term consequences for the country’s unity and democratic fabric.

The remarks drew strong reactions from rival parties. BJP leaders dismissed Singh’s statement as irresponsible and politically motivated, accusing him of trying to stay relevant by making controversial comments. They rejected any suggestion of alignment with AIMIM.

AIMIM leaders also refuted the allegation, stating that the party works within the constitutional framework and raises issues related to minority rights, not communal division. They said equating their politics with the BJP was misleading.

Within the Congress, several leaders defended Digvijaya Singh, saying he had merely highlighted the dangers of identity based politics and urged parties to focus on governance and inclusive growth instead of religious narratives.

The statement has once again reignited debate over the role of communal rhetoric in Indian politics, with analysts noting that such comments often intensify political fault lines ahead of crucial elections.
