The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has announced that it will create a separate Secunderabad district if the party returns to power in Telangana. The announcement was made by BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) during a meeting with party leaders from the Secunderabad region.
KTR accused the Congress led state government of weakening Secunderabad’s historical and administrative identity through recent decisions related to governance and municipal reorganisation. He said that under the previous BRS government led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Telangana had seen major administrative decentralisation with the creation of new districts, mandals and revenue divisions, which improved governance and service delivery.
The BRS leader alleged that several of these initiatives were now being diluted or reversed, affecting local administration and public sentiment. He also criticised the removal of cultural and historical references linked to Telangana’s identity, claiming such actions were hurting the emotional connect of the people with Secunderabad.
KTR said there has been a long-standing public demand for recognising Secunderabad as a distinct administrative unit. He added that if BRS is voted back to power, the party would formally notify Secunderabad as a separate district, ensuring better governance and preserving the city’s unique heritage.
The announcement comes amid increased political activity in the region, with BRS leaders continuing to campaign on issues related to urban governance, local identity and administrative autonomy.
